Report: Everton ready to meet £13m asking price to sign Euro 2020 MOTM
Marcel Brands is ready to meet PSV Eindhoven’s demands for Everton to sign Denzel Dumfries, according to .
Everton are in the market for a new right-back as they look to secure a long-term . The Republic of Ireland international turns 33 later this year and has just 12-months remaining on his contract.
Dumfries could be that man, with Brands prepared to meet the requirements to bring the 25-year-old to Everton this summer. The Goodison Park outfit’s interest in the full-back also extends beyond his initial efforts at the European Championship.
Dumfries has been one of the early stars of Euro 2020 after turning in a for the Netherlands against Ukraine. He commanded the right-flank at the Amsterdam Arena last Sunday and cropped up in the 85th-minute to score the winner.
A strong showing at the competition under Frank de Boer could now see Dumfries secure a move away from PSV. Everton are the front runners for his signature, but face competition from Serie A champions Inter Milan.
Dumfries’ agent, Mino Raiola, intends to assess all options for his client in the coming weeks. PSV are prepared to sell their captain for €15million (£13m), although Everton need to clear space in their squad to convince the defender to join.
Everton Norwich’s Max Aarons and Tariq Lamptey of Brighton earlier in the year as Coleman successors. They reviving attempts to sign Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot. But it appears Dumfries has moved to the top of the shortlist.
TBR’s view: Everton signing a star in Dumfries
Everton would be signing a star if Brands meets PSV’s requirements for Dumfries this summer. The Dutchman is a box-to-box presence at right-back with a will to get forward and create goalscoring opportunities.
He is also a leader of men and can deliver a strong defensive performance if fielded in the right system. That would not have been an issue for Everton under Carlo Ancelotti, who often favoured a four-man defence last season.
Brands may yet have to convince Dumfries of a move to Everton, though. But that will not be too troublesome, with Coleman playing a lesser role last term showing the first-choice spot is up for grabs.
