Report: Everton quoted £26m for six-assist dynamo, agent in talks over summer exit

AC Milan are speaking with the agent of Everton target Rafael Leao to discuss the striker’s future, according to .

Jorge Mendes met with the Rossoneri last week as Leao is expected to attract important offers in the transfer window. But Milan are yet to formally grant the Portuguese centre-forward permission to look for a new club.

Milan are confident Leao has the ability to lead the line at the San Siro in seasons to come. He scored and offered six assists in 30 Serie A appearances last term, starting 22 of his outings. However, the 22-year-old only scored once in eight Europa League games.

Milan could warm to selling Leao over the summer with interest surfacing in the U21 international. Along with Everton, Wolverhampton Wanderers have long held an interest in bringing the forward to the Premier League.

And they have now been joined by Marseille, who have approached Mendes to register their interest. The Ligue 1 giants are likely to advance their position in what will be Jorge Sampaoli’s first window in charge.

Milan Technical Director Paolo Maldini would demand at least €30million (£26m) to sell Leao this summer. The Rossoneri would be accepting a loss at that figure, having paid Lille (£30m) in 2019 following an Ligue 1 campaign.

Leao scored and offered two assists during his maiden Serie A campaign, after starting 12 of 31 appearances. He has also scored once in for Portugal’s U21s but is yet to make his senior debut.

TBR’s view: Everton need to move for Leao

Everton may currently be manageress, but Director of Football Marcel Brands will have to move for Leao if the Toffees are to sign the Milan striker. The Dutchman risks missing out on the forward if he does not begin negotiations with the Rossoneri soon.

Marseille are positioning themselves strongly to pursue Leao after approaching Mendes. It’s a clear sign of their aspirations to target the 22-year-old in the summer with Milan warming to a transfer.

The chance for Everton to sign Leao is becoming evident, then, and the of Portuguese coach Nuno Espirito Santo at Goodison Park could be what tips the scales back in their favour.
