Unfortunately for Burnley, it was not enough to keep the Clarets in the top-flight. But it certainly appears that Cornet will be playing in the Premier League during the coming season.

Reports have suggested that Tottenham are admirers with the forward available for just £17.5 million. But it seems that Everton are the current favourites to secure his signature.

that the Toffees have had a loan bid rejected. But they are planning a second offer, and may now consider pursuing a permanent deal.

Cornet would arguably be an ideal addition for Everton. It has been well-documented that Lampard is not exactly able to splash the cash at Goodison Park this summer.

The £60 million sale of Richarlison has helped. But obviously, they now need to replace their best player and strengthen in other areas.

So spending less than £20 million to sign Cornet makes so much sense for the Toffees. He is a ‘‘ player who can play in a variety of positions.

Obviously, a loan move would have been even better for Everton. But his asking price is not particularly high. So it leaves the club with plenty more left in the transfer kitty to go after other targets.

If he can replicate the goalscoring return he had at Burnley next year, he could undoubtedly be a brilliant addition.
