Report: Everton monitoring Middlesbrough forward Chuba Akpom

Everton are one of the Premier League sides monitoring Chuba Akpom, with that the Toffees are battling the likes of Crystal Palace and Southampton for the Middlesbrough star.

Akpom currently leads the goalscoring charts in the Championship. He has scored 13 times for Michael Carrick’s men, helping them fly up the table and into the play-off places.

Remarkably, Akpom had actually only scored two league goals before the end of September. And he played no part in seven of their first 10 league games. However, Carrick’s appointment appears to have changed everything for the former Arsenal youngster.

He has now scored nine in his last 10. And it appears that Boro now face a fight to keep him at the Riverside Stadium.

, Everton, Southampton and Palace all want Akpom.

All three certainly could do with signing a new striker this season. The Saints sit bottom of the Premier League table. Meanwhile, Palace have barely managed better than a goal a game so far.

Everton have suffered from not having Dominic Calvert-Lewin for the majority of the campaign. Once again, the England international has been struggling with injuries.

Neal Maupay arrived in the summer as Frank Lampard’s men looked to cope with the loss of Richarlison. But Maupay does not appear to fit with how Everton want to play. He has scored once for the club.

With no Richarlison in the ranks, it would be a huge gamble for Everton to let the window close without signing another goalscorer.

Akpom is unproven in the Premier League. But there is no doubt that he is in brilliant form right now. And finding someone to just score a few crucial goals could make a huge difference.
