Report: Everton interested in 58-year-old should Moshiri decide to replace Rafa Benitez

Everton could attempt to lure Jose Mourinho back to the Premier League should Farhad Moshiri decide to replace Rafa Benitez as Toffees manager, .

Benitez faces a huge task trying to get the supporters back on side. Of course, many were never able to accept the Spaniard’s appointment given his connections with their Merseyside rivals.

An encouraging start gave Benitez some breathing space. But Everton have since been on a torrid run, not winning in the league since late September.

Obviously, the atmosphere became even more toxic on Wednesday when Everton were beaten comfortably at home by Liverpool. It will have come as a surprise to some that Benitez seemingly looks set to remain in charge for Monday’s clash with Arsenal.

that he retains the support of Moshiri. Nevertheless, the club are keeping potential targets on their radar should a change be made.

And one of the names that Everton could target is Mourinho. It is noted that he is believed to be open to taking a Premier League position despite only taking the Roma job in the summer.

Everton must not replace Benitez with Jose Mourinho

Everton have lost their way in recent years. And in truth, it is hard to see Benitez turning the situation around at Goodison Park.

Their most encouraging period under Moshiri arguably came when they appointed Carlo Ancelotti. Ancelotti still struggled at times before departing for Real Madrid. But landing the Italian was a huge statement.

That may be why someone like Mourinho reportedly appeals. However, it is growing harder and harder to argue that Mourinho remains the Special One.

Some Everton fans will surely welcome Mourinho coming in. But given the constraints Benitez dealt with in the transfer market in the summer, it is hard to imagine Mourinho enjoying much more success.

Everton need to find themselves an exciting manager on the way up in their career.
