Report: Everton in final stage of talks to sign Branislav Ivanovic
Everton are thought to be in the final stages of talks with Branislav Ivanovic over a move to Goodison Park.
the former Chelsea enforcer looks set to return to the Premier League for a second stint under Carlo Ancelotti.
The 36-year-old played under the Italian at Stamford Bridge and has now been identified as someone who could do a job for the Toffees.
A Serbian international he won the Champions League with the Blues in 2012; although he was suspended for the final alongside John Terry.
Ivanovic signed for Zenit Saint-Petersburg in 2017 after leaving Chelsea but is now on the lookout for a new club.
He scored four goals in 35 appearances during 2019/20 and would surely relish a Premier League swansong under Ancelotti.
Ivanovic previously spent nine years in England making 377 appearances for Chelsea, proving a versatile defender.
Everton finished 12th in the Premier League and that simply won’t do for Ancelotti next season.
He will want his first full campaign on Merseyside to be a successful one and for that, he will need reinforcements.
The Toffees conceded 56 goals during their 38 league games and Ivanovic’s experience could help alter that next season.
Everton have Michael Keane and Yerry Mina as their experienced central defenders; with Mason Holgate and Jarrad Branthwaite coming through the ranks.
Having another wise head in their defensive ranks might not be a bad thing and Ivanovic could certainly help the club’s younger stars.
The report claims that Ancelotti wants to add a player who is ‘strong and hardened’ to his ranks ahead of the new season starting.
