TBR’s View:

Everton’s desire to sign a new right-back isn’t great news for Seamus Coleman or Jonjoe Kenny, with surely at least one of them in danger of being frozen out of the first team next season.

James is an exciting talent that dazzled in the Championship this season for Wigan and looks good enough to make the step up to the Premier League.

His best position is at right-back, where he’s got the pace and athleticism to go up and down the flank.

But he’s a gifted footballer too that can slot into the midfield or at centre-back when needed.

The set-piece specialist would be an incredible talent for Marco Silva’s side to invest in, but trying to prize him away from Chelsea could be difficult amid their potential two-window transfer ban.
