Report: Everton have released Jonas Lossl, set to join boyhood club FC Midtjylland

Everton are set to let Jonas Lossl leave the club this week with the Dane set to return to his homeland and join former club FC Midtjylland on a free transfer.

Lossl has been allowed to leave the club after falling below Robin Olsen in the pecking order to third-choice stopper.

, suggesting Lossl will have to fight for the first-team spot with another capped Danish national keeper in Jesper Hansen.

Lossl, who arrived on a free transfer from Huddersfield Town in the summer of 2019, spent a period back on loan with the West Yorkshire side last season. The Danish international never made a competitive appearance for the club despite proclaiming himself ready to challenge Jordan Pickford for the number one spot at Goodison Park.

“I believe 100 percent that I can become a first-team player here,” Lossl in 2019. “Whether it is while Jordan (Pickford) is here or when he’s gone, I don’t know. But I believe it.”

The 31-year-old previously came through the youth system with The Wolves and will now be hoping to help push his former team toward league glory once again following the end of his £53,000-a-week Goodison Park deal.

It leaves Everton with Jordan Pickford and Olsen fighting for the number one jersey, with Pickford’s form suggesting the Swede might soon get another crack at being the club’s first-choice keeper.

As for Lossl, he will now face another battle to earn a number one spot.
