Report: Everton have now made their move to sign ‘world class’ Tottenham target

Everton have made an approach to sign Barcelona forward Memphis Depay amid widespread interest in the Dutchman.

Spanish outlet claim that the Toffees are one of the clubs who have made their move to try and sign Depay.

They say that Chelsea and Tottenham – both of whom can offer Champions League football – are also keen on the forward.

And Juventus are also very keen to bring Depay to Italy, and are seemingly leading the race to sign him at this stage.

Everton approach Memphis Depay

The report says that Depay prefers a move to a Champions League club and that looks like it could well put Everton on the back foot.

But they are looking for a replacement for Richarlison, who left for Tottenham and has not been replaced in Frank Lampard’s squad yet.

Depay would be a major player for Everton, as opposed to just a squad option at Stamford Bridge or Spurs, which may appeal.

Lyon manager Bruno Genesio called Depay a ‘‘ player but he looks to be surplus to requirements at Barcelona.

He only joined them in June 2021 but their financial issues are well known and they need to shift players out in order to register new ones.

That could hand Everton an opportunity, but they will have to find a way to get Depay to shun the Champions League to replace Richarlison at Goodison Park.
