Report: Everton forward Henry Onyekuru’s move to AS Monaco now imminent
Everton striker Henry Onyekuru is set to seal a move to AS Monaco ‘within the next 24 hours’.
that a fee of £12 million has been agreed for the Nigerian’s transfer, and that the 22-year-old’s transfer to the Stade Louis II is now imminent.
Onyekuru is expected to sign a five-year deal and is already in the south of France.
Should the deal go through as expected, then Everton will actually be making a small profit on the player having paid £8 million for him in 2017 ().
Onyekuru has never actually played for Everton having failed to obtain a work permit.
Since becoming an Everton player, he has had loan spells with Anderlecht and last season, Galatasaray.
He will replace Nacer Chadli at Monaco, who is leaving to join Anderlecht.
TBR’s view
Considering he never played for the first-team, Everton have done very well to make a profit on Onyekuru.
It is a shame for the youngster that work permit issues prevented him from playing in the Premier League, but he is probably right to move on to try and truly kickstart his career.
He scored 16 goals in 44 appearances last term, but arguably just isn’t at the level required for Everton, which is suggested by his work permit struggles.
£12 million is a tidy sum that can potentially be reinvested into the squad in January.
