Report: Everton eager to sell £80k-a-week player; Ancelotti started him four times last season

Everton are reportedly keen to sell Fabian Delph this summer, who is not part of the club’s pre-season tour of the US this week.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Rafa Benitez is eager to shave some excess wage off the club’s payroll this summer.

And the Spanish manager has identified Delph, as well as Andre Gomes, as players who can leave in the window.

The midfielder reportedly earns £80,000-a-week according to Spotrac. Yet despite being one of Everton’s highest earners, Delph has seen little first-team football since joining in 2019.

Injuries have taken their toll on the former Manchester City star.

And last season saw Carlo Ancelotti star Delph just four times in all competitions for the Toffees. The 31-year-old has played just 30 games for Everton in the past two campaigns.

With Benitez keen to overhaul the Everton squad this summer, the departure of Delph will be a welcome move for all parties involved.

The midfielder has hardly featured for the Merseyside club since moving in 2019.

And with Delph likely to want to return to playing week-in week-out at Premier League level, the former Aston Villa captain could allow Everton to let him walk at a cut-rate fee.

Indeed, clubs in the Premier League might be keen to sign Delph. Mainly due to the midfielders track record in the division on the pitch as well as leadership qualities and character ofit.
