Report: Everton discuss 43-year-old manager as potential target

Everton are reportedly discussing Marco Silva as a potential managerial target.

, the Toffees hierarchy are discussing the 43-year-old and are considering him as a possibility.

Silva, who is currently available and out-of-work, was previously the Everton manager for 18 months.

The Portuguese boss was sacked in December 2019 following a Merseyside 5-2 hammering against Liverpool.

For Everton, they need to appoint a new manager after Carlo Ancelotti’s Tuesday exit.

Silva is someone who’s extremely familiar to Goodison Park surroundings and was popular at times during his Everton spell. Unfortunately, Toffees fans may remember it as a frustrating one.

His Everton side were weak defensively, especially from set-pieces, and ultimately he failed in the transfer window.

Marco Silva appointment would be backwards step for Everton

Fortunately, the Silva speculation seems vague right now compared to other links out there.

He’s managed three English clubs in his career so far in the shape of Hull City, Watford and Everton. Whether the Merseyside club would be willing to take a second chance on him remains to be seen.

Ancelotti’s boots are massive to fill.

He may not have got the Toffees over the line for European football in the 2020/21 season, but he helped attract some big names in the transfer window last summer.

There is a talented group of players waiting for the next manager. They are perhaps only one or two signings away from really kicking on, but that can’t happen until a new manager walks through the door. They must ensure it’s as quick a process as possible due to the fact a new head coach needs time ahead of next season.
