Report: Everton defender Brendan Galloway set to join Luton Town on permanent deal

Everton outcast Brendan Galloway is set to leave the club on a permanent basis. , Galloway will make a permanent move to Luton Town this week.

The 23-year-old was once seen as the long-term successor for Leighton Baines at Everton. He was jostling with Luke Garbutt for that role but neither look like they will make it.

Everton now have Lucas Digne as their first-choice left-back with Baines as back-up for one more season. Then, Antonee Robinson is third in line for the left-back spot.

This situation puts Galloway in a difficult position. He burst onto the scene in the 2015/16 season, racking up 19 appearances while Baines was out injured.

But his progress has been hampered ever since. The England U21 international has not played for Everton since the 2015/16 season and has had two unsuccessful loan spells.

During stints with West Brom and Sunderland, Galloway has only managed a combined total of 13 appearances. He is well down the pecking order and looks set to leave.

Luton are ready to sign the former MK Dons defender. Graeme Jones, who used to be the assistant manager at Everton, will take a chance on Galloway on a free transfer.

Brendan Galloway needs Everton exit

At such a crucial stage of his career, Galloway cannot afford to be wallowing in U23 football. Leaving Everton makes sense and the club is ready to let him go for free.

Luton could be the ideal destination for the young full-back. He knows Jones and he joins a club who are on a high following back-to-back promotions.

Former West Ham defender Dan Potts will provide competition with Galloway for the left-back spot. But this could be where he gets his career back on track.
