Report: Everton could be set for transfer battle with Ronald Koeman for Memphis Depay
Everton could reportedly battle their former boss Ronald Koeman to the signature of Dutch international striker Memphis Depay,
The report claims that the Lyon forward wants to leave the French side this summer after their failure to qualify for the Champions League. He showcased his immense ability this weekend with a hat-trick in Lyon’s 4-1 win over Dijon in their Ligue 1 opener.
Koeman, who has recently taken over as manager of Barcelona, is a huge fan of the Dutchman, playing him in a pivotal role in the Dutch national team whilst manager of his country.
He is said to be keen on bringing him to the Nou Camp and with just one year left on his contract, the 26-year-old could be available at a cut-price fee.

Everton are also said to be interested in the player. Director of football Marcel Brands knows him from his time at PSV Eindhoven and the Toffees are eyeing big-name signings this summer, with Allan and James Rodriguez set to arrive from Napoli and Real Madrid respectively.
Whether or not Depay follows remains up for debate but it would seem unlikely.
If Depay genuinely has a chance to go and play for Barcelona, it would be strange if he instead decided to head to Goodison Park, despite his previous working relationship with Brands.
Unfortunately for Everton, if they get into a competition with their former boss for this transfer, there is likely to only be one winner.
