Report: Everton candidate wants Brands to sign ‘extremely talented’ star, deal available for £1.3m
According to , Eddie Howe would want to sign Jefferson Lerma if appointed by Everton as the club’s next manager.
The former Bournemouth boss is in the running to replace Carlo Ancelotti, after the Italian left for Real Madrid. Howe, who grew up , has been out of work the south coast side last summer.
And Lerma now faces an uncertain future after Howe’s former side failed to secure their immediate return to the Premier League. The Colombian is desperate to continue playing at the highest level and would leave the Vitality Stadium to do so.
Bournemouth are also open to parting with Lerma on a temporary deal, amid interest from across Europe. The Cherries would demand €1.5million (£1.3m) for a season-long loan deal for their record signing.
Lerma can leave Bournemouth on loan so that the Cherries can revaluate his situation next year, in the event that they again fail to secure promotion. The international made in all competitions last season, offering three goals and two assists.
Lerma, who cost Bournemouth in 2018, has interest from Turkey and Spain, along with Howe wanting a reunion. Galatasaray are currently leading the charge for the 26-year-old’s signature after presenting an informal offer to the Cherries.
Galatasaray and Bournemouth are still miles apart in their valuations, however. But they are reluctant to pass on the chance to sign a player who would be essential under Fatih Terim.
Another unnamed team in England is also interested in a loan deal for the holding midfielder. Yet Howe would request that Everton sign Lerma if named the club’s next manager after their time together at Bournemouth.

Everton should not pass on the chance to sign Lerma if Howe is named their next manager. The former Bournemouth boss knows the Colombian well, and his arrival on loan would be relatively cheap.
Taking Lerma on loan this summer could also open the door for Everton to sign the midfielder permanently next year. And Howe would imagine he will impress, having expected big things from the 26-year-old at Bournemouth.
“Jefferson is an extremely talented player and a very good athlete, who will bring a different type of play to our midfield,” he said, via the , after signing Lerma. “He has a lot of qualities that will be suited to the Premier League.”
Everton Director of Football Marcel Brands, then, should be receptive to Howe’s request on Lerma. Should Farhad Moshiri decide that the unemployed Englishman is the best candidate to replace Ancelotti.
