Report: Everton ask about Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti

Everton have reportedly made a move to try sign defender Samuel Umtiti from La Liga and Champions League club Barcelona.

, Barcelona want to offload the 27-year-old and find him an alternative club until the end of the season.

The report claims that there are “several” teams interested in him, including Everton.

It is explained that Premier League side Everton have made contact about the France international already, plus Italian giants Juventus are keen too.

Umtiti has missed the opening months of the season with a knee injury, but did return on Tuesday night with an appearance off the bench in Barcelona’s defeat to Juventus in the Champions League group stages.

The powerhouse centre-back is an experienced player that has won the World Cup and also two La Liga titles, but it looks like he doesn’t feature in the current plans at Camp Nou.

TBR’s View:

Everton should certainly be keen on a player of Umtiti’s pedigree if he becomes available, but the only risk would be he’s returning from a knee problem and has built a reputation as being injury prone in recent years.

The left-footed centre-half is excellent on his day and looks a perfect fit for the style of the Premier League.

A loan deal until the end of the season could makes sense to bolster Carlo Ancelotti’s options, but they should wait to see how the defender fares for the rest of the month.
