Report: Everton are now moving closer to signing ‘special’ player even Jurgen Klopp admits is ‘very good’
Everton are now in advanced talks to re-sign Ross Barkley from Chelsea, according to a report by .
They say that there are only small details to be ironed out before the England international can return to Goodison Park.
That is of course where he came through the ranks before joining the Blues in January 2018, with over his cut-price fee.
It has been reported that the club are worried about the reaction of the fans to bringing Barkley back, but it looks like that is about to happen.
Everton in advanced talks with Barkley
Last summer, Everton fans had to swallow the arrival of former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez, and it went as badly as expected.
Current Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Barkley is a player, when the Englishman was on loan at Aston Villa.
At Everton, he was labelled a ‘‘ player by Roberto Martinez, but his career has stalled at Chelsea, where he has struggled for gametime and he needs a way out.
It seems Barkley might have some making up to do if he does come back to Goodison Park, but Frank Lampard would hope the situation is not as acrimonious as the Benitez one was this time last year.
But according to , Everton fans feel Barkley cost the club a lot of money in the summer of 2017.
The Englishman had entered the final year of his contract and Chelsea and Tottenham both wanted to sign him for a fee as high as £35 million.
Barkley apparently turned down a move that summer because he was not sold by the idea of moving to either club. He didn’t play a single game for Everton until January because of a hamstring injury, and Chelsea secured his signature for just £15 million in the winter window – £20 million less than what they were willing to pay six months prior.
The report claims that Everton fans feel he stayed injured at the club for six months just to get himself a better deal – thus costing the club a lot of money. That feeling remains to this day, and it would be a delicate situation to manage if he did come back.
