Report: Everton and West Ham tried to sign 34-year-old Premier League winner this summer

According to , Everton and West Ham both tried to sign David Luiz after he left Arsenal at the end of last season.
What’s the story?
Well, the 34-year-old became a free agent this summer after his contract at the Emirates Stadium expired.
Many clubs were interested, according to – Real Madrid even made an attempt to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Luiz has also won the Premier League title on one occasion, lifting the trophy with Chelsea in 2017.
Having said that, it’s probably best that he went to Flamengo.
Everton and West Ham dodged a bullet

With all due respect to Luiz, who is a fantastic player on his day, Everton and West Ham have dodged a bullet here.
The former Paris Saint-Germain defender would’ve commanded a significant salary, having earned in his final season in north London.
Additionally, it certainly wouldn’t have been a signing for the long-term, so the centre-back department would’ve needed further reinforcements within a few years.

West Ham eventually signed Kurt Zouma, who is a significantly better addition than Luiz would’ve been.
In Everton’s case, they didn’t sign a centre-back, although Ben Godfrey, Yerry Mina, Mason Holgate and Michael Keane are decent options.
Without a doubt, the Premier League duo dodged a bullet.
