Report: Even Paul Scholes stood up and applauded one Liverpool player vs Manchester United last night

Liverpool beat Manchester United 4-0 last night and everybody at Anfield was in awe of Thiago Alcantara, even Paul Scholes.

It took the Reds just five minutes to open the scoring against Ralf Rangnick’s men yesterday. Liverpool didn’t even have to get into second gear to get the win, which just shows the difference in quality between the two sides at the moment.

One player who was thoroughly enjoying himself last night was Thiago in central midfield.

The Spaniard hasn’t quite been able to show the world what he’s all about in a Liverpool shirt, but he reminded everyone yesterday why he’s one of the best midfielders in the world.

What Paul Scholes did when Thiago Alcantara was substituted last night

Jurgen Klopp decided to bring Thiago off in the 80th minute yesterday and it was clear for everyone to see that the Spaniard didn’t want to come off. The Liverpool boss explained after the game that he thought the midfielder had , which is why he was brought off.

As Thiago walked off the pitch, every Liverpool fan at Anfield stood up to applaud. Surprisingly, Reds supporters weren’t the only ones on their feet clapping for the Spanish magician.

Manchester United legend Scholes was working as a pundit for Premier League Productions yesterday and he was at Anfield keeping a very close eye on things.

If you’re a Liverpool player and Paul Scholes gives you a standing ovation, you must have done something special. That’s exactly what Thiago did yesterday.

Among all the players that played last night, Thiago had the most touches of the ball (129), most accurate passes (105,) joint-most passes in the final third (25), most duels won (7), most successful take-ons (3), most tackles (3) and joint-most interceptions (2). []

He was absolutely incredible yesterday and it’s about time that people recognize him for the truly amazing midfielder that he is. If he continues playing like this, Liverpool will be the favourites to win at least the treble, if not the quadruple.
