Report: Europa League side must sell £26m Arsenal target to land desired summer arrival

Real Betis are eying a move to sign AC Milan winger Samu Castillejo but must offload Arsenal target Nabil Fekir first, according to .

Manuel Pellegrini is eager to strengthen his options at the Villamarin Stadium after Los Verdiblancos qualified for the Europa League. The Chilean secured the Andalusian side’s joint-best La Liga finish in fifth last season.

Fekir played a leading role in Betis’ efforts with no player than his six. The Frenchman also struck home five goals for the joint-third most over 33 appearances, of which he started each.

Betis could now be forced to sell Fekir in the summer transfer window to free the funds for Pellegrini’s targets. The 27-year-old is wanted at Arsenal, who could make a move that would allow Castillejo to join from Milan.

Mikel Arteta is targeting attacking midfield reinforcements in the off-season after loan star Martin Odegaard returned to Real Madrid. have previously cited Arsenal as a potential destination for Fekir, as well, but face a £26m fee.

Betis have been hit hard by the pandemic and are having to sell some of their prized assets. Fekir is also open to leaving the Spanish side two years after joining and has switched his agent ahead of any potential move.

And reports in Spain have already claimed Arsenal have submitted an offer for Fekir to move to the Emirates this summer. The Gunners have kept tabs on the playmaker since he joined Betis having missed out in 2019.

TBR’s view: Betis give Arsenal boost in Fekir hunt

Real Betis have given Arsenal a boost in their Fekir hunt by lining up Castillejo as his replacement. The La Liga outfit needing to sell the Frenchman first also only strengthens Arteta’s position to strike a summer deal.

Arsenal may struggle to lower Betis’ asking price for Fekir, though, given the club’s financial situation. They will be hellbent on making as much as possible to balance the books, while still providing Pellegrini with a competitive squad.

Calciomercato also do not note how much Milan want for Castillejo after he fell out of favour last season. The Spaniard started Serie A outings in 2020/21 and only offered one goal and one assist.
