Report: Edu was ready to pay £46m for ‘amazing’ midfielder three months ago, Arsenal can get him for £25m now

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Lille midfielder Renato Sanches for a while now and they may soon be able to sign him for a bargain fee.
Mikel Arteta’s men were desperate to sign a new midfielder in the January transfer window. Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey were away on international duty at AFCON while Granit Xhaka missed a couple of games due to suspension.
That left the Gunners with just Albert Sambi Lokonga in the middle of the park, which was a huge concern.
Arsenal tried really hard to get a deal done but it wasn’t possible in the end. However, they are expected to sign at least one new midfielder in the summer transfer window and it could well be Sanches.
Arsenal can sign Renato Sanches for £25m now
According to , Arsenal are still keen on signing Sanches from Lille in the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old, labelled as ‘‘ by Carlo Ancelotti, has entered the final 18 months of his contract and he has no plans of signing an extension. He is almost guaranteed to leave Lille in the summer and the report has credited Arteta’s side and even Barcelona with an interest.
The Portugal international, after an underwhelming spell at Bayern Munich, has become a star again. He has been fantastic for Lille and even helped them win the league last season. He’s destined for a big move soon.
The report claims that Les Dogues will sell him in the summer if their valuation of £25 million is met. That’s very affordable for Arsenal and considering that Sanches will enter the final year of his deal, that price could come further down.

Edu was ready to spend £46 million
This isn’t the first time Renato Sanches has been linked with a move to Arsenal. Rumours have credited the Gunners with an interest in him for the better part of a year and the biggest claim was made just three months ago, in November.
revealed that Edu had put Alexandre Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah and Bernd Leno up for sale and was looking to raise £46 million. The report claimed that the Arsenal technical director was ready to spend that entire figure on Sanches in January, but that deal never materialised.
If Edu was willing to splash £45 million on Sanches just three months ago, £25 million will sound like an absolute bargain for him ahead of the summer transfer window.
However, with Barcelona also reportedly keen, it won’t be easy to sign him.
