Report: ‘Dynamic’ 24-year-old West Ham wanted in 2020 set for move, worth £32m less
Schalke will sell Suat Serdar to Hertha Berlin 18-months after rejecting a move to West Ham United, according to .
The Veltins-Arena is set to be picked apart for their top talent this summer after Schalke were relegated from the Bundesliga. Serdar will be one of the first to leave, after snubbing interest from Germany and abroad in favour of Berlin.
Serdar is desperate for a fresh start at the capital side after an injury-ravished spell saw the 24-year-old’s stock plummet. He will join Hertha for just €8million (£7m), three years after joining Schalke from Mainz for €11m (£9.5m).
Serdar’s first year and a half saw interest in his services skyrocket with Fredi Bobic keen to take him to Eintracht Frankfurt. Atletico Madrid were also on alert, while West Ham bid as much as €45m (£39m) in January 2020.
Schalke and Serdar both turned down the Irons’ approach. It came after the German scored Bundesliga games to start the 2019/20 season. But his campaign was effectively over from February with ankle, toe and knee injuries to follow.

But David Moyes’ London Stadium natives will count themselves lucky that Serdar and Schalke rejected their £39m offer. His injury record in 2020 was very worrying and he rarely displayed the same form seen in previous seasons.
His value now speaks volumes of what sort of player the German has become in the past 18-months. Serdar will hope that a fresh start at Hertha now sees him return to the international stage after more than a year away.
