The likes of Roberto Martinez, Frank Lampard and Sean Dyche have reportedly been on the radar.

But the Daily Mail reports that talks with Nuno Espirito Santo have now been held. Meanwhile, David Moyes is a contender for the post.

However, there is another name that wants to be in the frame.

, Ferguson hopes to be in the mix. He, of course, worked as part of Ancelotti’s coaching team at Goodison Park.

The report does note that Farhad Moshiri was impressed by the 49-year-old during his caretaker spell before Ancelotti’s arrival.

Everton were unbeaten in the four games he oversaw. They beat Chelsea and started the kind of run they desperately needed after Marco Silva had left them in the relegation zone.

Appointing Ferguson as next Everton boss would be gamble from Moshiri

There is no question that a Ferguson-led Everton side would not struggle for passion and plenty of fight.

And it is certainly a plus that Ancelotti decided to have him in his coaching team during his time on Merseyside.

But given some of the names about, appointing Ferguson would potentially be an unnecessary gamble.

In fairness, the Everton board will have a good idea of whether Ferguson has potential as a manager.

But from the outside, it would be a huge roll of the dice. He has only taken charge of four senior games.

Having said that, some Everton fans may be in favour of Ferguson being appointed.

Some of the names have been met by a divided reaction, at best. So maybe Moshiri will be tempted to take a risk.
