Report: Duncan Ferguson to stay at Everton if Carlo Ancelotti arrives

Duncan Ferguson is set to remain at Everton if Carlo Ancelotti becomes the Toffees’ new manager, .

Ferguson was given the manager’s job on a temporary basis in the wake of Marco Silva’s departure. And he has certainly staked a claim to keep the job long-term with a win coming against Chelsea and an impressive showing in the 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Saturday.

It appears however, that Everton have taken a step towards appointing Ancelotti. , the Toffees have held initial talks with the Italian and further discussions have been pencilled in.

And the report adds that Ferguson will have a role at Goodison Park if Ancelotti arrives. He had been working on the first-team coaching staff before Silva’s departure, so perhaps he would return to a similar role.

It would clearly be a popular move if Ancelotti kept Ferguson in his ranks. The 47-year-old’s popularity seems to have only increased during his time as interim boss.

And perhaps that may open the door for another opportunity for Ferguson further down the line. Some have backed the Scot for the permanent job this time around.

Appointing Ancelotti looks to be a fantastic move for the Toffees. But Ferguson has demonstrated some of his potential in the last two games.

And working under Ancelotti is only going to increase the likelihood of Ferguson being ready for the role at some stage in the future.
