The Magpies, of course, will be looking to kick on this summer. Eddie Howe has ensured that his side will be playing in the Premier League next year. And there will be plenty of intrigue surrounding the business that they will do in the upcoming window.

Signing a new striker is surely likely to be a priority. Callum Wilson has been a brilliant signing, but his fitness has been a problem in the last couple of years. Chris Wood meanwhile, has not been in the best form since moving to St James’ Park.

Divock Origi rejected Newcastle

Origi could have been a brilliant signing for Newcastle. He has not played as much as he would have liked for Liverpool. But there is absolutely no question that he is set to leave Anfield as a hero.

Time and time again, he has come up with a massive goal for Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp described him as an ‘‘ finisher, and you would imagine that he would have had absolutely no complaints if he wanted to stick around.

So it would have been a real coup for Newcastle to sign Origi. Unfortunately, it appears that they are set to miss out.
