Report details Tottenham officials’ Dele Alli thinking and Jesse Lingard transfer status

There are officials at Tottenham Hotspur who believe Dele Alli can still turn his fortunes around at the club with Spurs not considering Jesse Lingard as a potential replacement, according to reports.

that there are those at Spurs who believe Alli just needs to rediscover his confidence in order to get back to thriving in North London. The examples of both Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso are cited. It appears that neither man was particularly highly rated by Jose Mourinho upon his arrival at the club, Ndombele quite publicly so.

However, both have turned things around and become key members of the Tottenham unit.

Alli has been heavily linked with a potential move to PSG and a reunion with former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

One potential that has been mooted is Jesse Lingard. The Manchester United man would slot into one of Spurs’ homegrown player spaces and Mourinho is known to rate the Old Trafford outcast highly from his time with the Red Devils.

“He is a naughty but funny guy,” Mourinho was quoted as saying  in 2018. “He is the funny one that doesn’t disturb the class. He is the funny one that the teacher isn’t upset with.

“He is the one that makes things work and in the right moment he is positive and he makes everyone in the class laugh and creates a good atmosphere and that is the atmosphere that we always want in our class, because I was also a school teacher and I know what it means.

However, claims that Tottenham have no interest in bringing in Lingard this month, nor did they in the summer when reports first emerged.

Lingard is 28-years-old and would command a significant wage packet that Spurs would simply not be willing to pay. His period of inactivity would also make him a risky recruit for Mourinho and Daniel Levy.

Alli has been valued at around £45 million by Spurs, with Tottenham said to be unwilling to discuss a loan deal.

The longer this rumbles on the more it seems likely that Alli will be staying at Tottenham for the rest of the campaign.

Hopefully, Alli can indeed follow in the footsteps of Ndombele and Lo Celso by reasserting himself into Mourinho’s first-team plans.
