Report details Roma’s contract offer for Tottenham Hotspur star Toby Alderweireld

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld’s future at the club has been a topic of much discussion this summer.

The Belgian defender had a clause in his contract which temporarily made him available for £25 million. That clause has, however, now expired. Tottenham now look likely to keep hold of him for the final year of his contract.

However, Italian giants Roma are still believed to be keen. In fact, reported on the apparent contract that the Giallorossi are willing to offer the Belgian.

The report claims that Roma are willing to offer him a four-year deal at the Stadio Olimpico, valued at €3m-a-year (£51,000-a-week).

Considering Tottenham’s apparent policy regarding payers in Alderweireld’s age range, that is a far more secure deal than anything he is likely to receive from Spurs.

He would, of course, be a more expensive buy now.

, Tottenham now value Alderweireld at £40 million after the expiry of his £25 million buy-out clause.

Tottenham may have a big decision to make regarding Alderweireld this summer. Should Roma, or any other team, come in with a transfer offer in the £40 million region it will be hard to reject. Tottenham would simply lose him for nothing next summer, if they cannot negotiate an extension to his current deal.

Time will tell if Alderweireld remains a Tottenham player beyond the summer.
