Report: Deportivo Alaves impressed with West Ham loanee Roberto

West Ham United flop Roberto has apparently made a good impression on loan at Deportivo Alaves so far, with the Spanish side reportedly wanting to keep him.

, the club’s sporting director Sergio Fernandez has been pleased with the 33-year-old’s attitude and ways since joining, and is already said to be hopeful of counting on him next season.

That’s despite him having not actually played a first-team match so far.

Roberto was let go temporarily by the Hammers in January after a nightmare showing for the club.

The veteran was tasked with replacing the injured Lukasz Fabianski in October, but struggled to go a game without making a mistake.

The 2019 free signing really flopped across his 10 appearances and even Manuel Pellegrini has admitted his form was one of the reasons he got the sack ().

TBR’s view – Music to West Ham’s ears

If Roberto really is impressing Alaves coaches, then that is great news for West Ham, who surely have to move him on in the summer.

Roberto performed so poorly that the club might have feared not being able to sell him.

Unfortunately, former director of football Mario Husillos got it completely wrong with Roberto and the quicker the mistake is reversed, the better.

Hopefully for the Irons, he doesn’t make any mistakes when actually called upon to play.
