Stubbs is out of work following a short-lived and unsuccessful spell in Scotland with St Mirren. However, Moyes is a big fan of the former Everton man, having worked with him during their time together at Goodison Park.

Moyes is keen on bringing in new staff as he continues to shake things up at the London Olympic Stadium.

Stuart Pearce was thought to be of interest to Moyes, but Pearce’s comments about the club’s owners have seen him banished from being around the club for the time being.

That has paved the way for Moyes to look at other options. A move to Stubbs would represent a drop away from management for the former defender. Stubbs has had three managerial roles since retiring as a player, with spells at Hibernian, Rotherham, and now St Mirren bringing mixed success.

Now Moyes is back in charge and on a full-time basis, he’ll want to make his mark at West Ham. By bringing in a former player who he knows well, it shows he is putting his stamp on proceedings.

Stubbs was one of the main figures for Moyes when Everton were enjoying Premier League success in the early 2000s.

Despite having indifferent managerial spells so far, he’s clearly a man who knows his football. After all, you don’t get three jobs without knowing a thing or two.

It’s important that West Ham trust Moyes and allow him to build. Therefore, bringing in someone like Stubbs might well be an important moment in the tenure of Moyes.
