Report: Daniel Levy left fuming as Spurs miss out on ‘sensational’ £37m star
Tottenham Hotspur didn’t do badly in the January transfer window, signing Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur.
Both players have taken to life at Spurs really well. And Antonio Conte’s charges are still in with a shout of the top four.
However, a report in has now claimed that one player Tottenham missed out on left Daniel Levy ‘fuming’.
It’s no secret that Spurs made a move for Luis Diaz, only for Liverpool to swoop in and bring him to Anfield instead.
The Colombia international was Jurgen Klopp’s top summer target, as they believed he’d stay at Porto until then.
However, after learning of Tottenham’s interest, Liverpool decided to act quickly. And they got a over the line.

Spurs were pushing to wrap up a deal of £38million, potentially rising to £50million.
But then, the Reds stepped in. And negotiations with Tottenham collapsed as Diaz reportedly made it clear he wanted to move to Anfield.
“By the time a fuming Levy came back to Porto with an improved offer to pay the full £50million as a guaranteed fee, it was too late,” added the report.
“Liverpool had their man six months earlier than planned.”
Another report in , from February, revealed just how close Spurs came to signing Diaz.
That report claimed Tottenham had a signed agreement in place with Porto for him to join Spurs.
And as well as Levy being left fuming, Fabio Paratici was reportedly ‘crushed’ by Diaz’s snub.
It doesn’t help that the 25-year-old has been “exceptional” – in Klopp’s words – for Liverpool these past few months.
But really, there’s really not much more that Tottenham could’ve done in the circumstances.
At the end of the day, if a side challenging for the Premier League and Champions League steps in, and the player decides to join them instead, that’s just one of those things.
If Spurs qualify for the Champions League, then that plus the chance to work under Antonio Conte will likely be a huge draw for players this summer.
