Report: Daniel Levy approach risking futures of six Tottenham stars

Tottenham Hotspur are in danger of losing six crucial players in the near future because of chairman Daniel Levy’s approach to contract talks – which have become somewhat outdated.

Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are all in the final 12 months of their current deals. It is clear that Alderweireld may leave at the end of his deal, while Eriksen remains in talks over a new contract.

In the summer of 2021, Danny Rose, Eric Dier and Moussa Sissoko are all set to see their deals expire. Chairman Levy’s approach is to hand players long-term deals, tying them down for years and keeping them on a smaller wage.

It is an approach that has worked for many years. Indeed, Eriksen is earning just £90,000 and Alderweireld is on £70,000. But players are beginning to wise up to Levy’s contractual tactics.

It means that players are against signing a new deal at Spurs because they do not want to be tied down long-term, on five-year deals. Eriksen, Alderweireld and Vertonghen could leave, while Rose, Dier and Sissoko could also depart.

TBR’s view – Levy must grow with the times, and save Tottenham

Losing all six of these players would not only be a loss because of the quality of all six players – but it would remove the family feel, the sense of consistency at Spurs. Levy needs to change his model, and save Spurs.

It is the core of Tottenham that the club are in danger of losing. Players like Eriksen and Alderweireld should be on much bigger contracts than what they are, but it is clear they are unwilling to sign long-term deals.

Levy must look to try and land the likes of Eriksen and Alderweireld on two-year deals, handing them the money they deserve. If Mesut Ozil gets £300,000 a week, Eriksen deserves to be on a lot more than £90,000.
