Report: Crystal Palace want Stephen Henderson

According to , Crystal Palace are interested in signing goalkeeper Stephen Henderson.

The 31-year-old shot-stopper is without a club and available as a free agent. He was released by Nottingham Forest this summer following the expiry of his contract, having failed to establish himself in the first team in his three years at the City Ground.

The Irishman has spent much of his career so far as a back-up ‘keeper. He has never taken to the field in a Premier League fixture before. The vast majority of his league appearances have come at Championship level.

If he were to arrive at Selhurst Park this summer, his chances of actually playing would be slim. With Vincent Guaita and Wayne Hennessey battling it out for the No. 1 spot, Henderson would likely come in to take the place of the recently-retired Julian Speroni as the third-choice option.

Signing Henderson would certainly be a cost-effective way for Roy Hodgson to fill this hole in his squad. Henderson’s arrival would also allow the youngster Dion Henry to leave the club on loan in search of some valuable first team experience elsewhere.

All in all then, this isn’t a deal that’s likely to excite the fans, but it could be some effective business for the Eagles all the same.
