Tottenham have been heavily linked with a move for Torino defender Gleison Bremer over the last two months and have now explained why.

It is no secret that Antonio Conte wanted a new central defender in the January transfer window. Spurs were linked with plenty of names as well, but Fabio Paratici just couldn’t get a deal over the line in the end.

Tottenham only managed to complete two signings – Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski, both from Juventus.

Bremer would’ve surely been the more sensible option considering how poor Spurs’ defence has been. The Brazilian, according to the report, is still a target and a move is on the cards in the summer window.

Close friend has told Conte to sign Bremer for Tottenham

Conte is arguably the best Italian manager in the world and he is a legend in the Serie A. His contacts in Italy are excellent and he often receives player recommendations from his close pals in the game.

One such friend is Gianluca Petrachi, who was a director at AS Roma and Torino in the past. He reportedly called Conte and recommended signing Bremer for Tottenham.

That is why the Brazilian has been heavily linked with a move to North London and Conte could really push to sign him in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The report claims that along with Spurs, Napoli, the two Milan clubs, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are also interested in Bremer, who is valued at just £25 million.

The strongest defender in Europe

Torino recently faced Juventus in Italy in the Turin derby and Bremer’s fantastic performance helped them pick up a 1-1 draw against their local rivals.

The Brazilian kept Serie A sensation Dusan Vlahovic quiet all game and he was lauded for his performance. TuttoSport journalist Camilo Forte sang his praises on and even went on to label him as the ‘strongest defender in Europe.’

He said: “The Brazilian has been expressing himself at a very high level for some time now. On Friday he stopped Vlahovic, but in recent seasons he had also cancelled champions of the calibre of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lukaku.

“I see him in one of the big names in the Premier League. On his trail, there are Liverpool, Tottenham and both Manchester teams. And they are right to follow him closely, for me Bremer is currently the strongest defender in Europe.”
