Report: Club ‘very optimistic’ about landing £35m Arsenal star, Gunners compromise on deal

Arsenal are reportedly compromising in negotiations to sell Granit Xhaka by lowering his asking price.

, the Gunners are in discussions with Italian club Roma about the sale of the 28-year-old.

Arsenal are dropping the asking price to €17.5million (£15million) for the midfielder. There is now a smaller margin to the €15million (£13million) bid that Roma previously saw rejected for Xhaka.

The report says that Jose Mourinho’s Roma are “very optimistic” of completing a deal this summer.

Xhaka, who cost Arsenal five years ago, has been a divisive figure at the Emirates Stadium.

The left-footed midfielder can on his day be a key player. However, he’s not the most athletic in the centre of the park, and becomes a main target for criticism.

Will Arsenal fans miss Xhaka when he’s gone?

For Arsenal, there are times this season they’ve looked weaker without Xhaka.

The Switzerland national team captain can be a real leader on the pitch, and he’s obviously got bags of ability on the ball.

It feels right though for him to leave north London this summer if the right transfer fee can be negotiated.

Mikel Arteta is trying to build a new-look Arsenal side.

They should be doing their very best to bring in a central midfielder that can blend well alongside Thomas Partey.
