Report: Club trying to get rid of defender with 4 league titles; Newcastle have made concrete approach

With six days left in the January transfer window, Newcastle United are still eager to bolster their ranks further.

The Magpies have signed right-back Kieran Trippier and striker Chris Wood so far this month.

And Newcastle have edged closer to safety after three unbeaten league games and a win last time out.

However, the Magpies have so far struggled to bring a third player to St James’ Park this month.

The January transfer window is always a tricky time to make new signings.

Newcastle’s best bet would be to snap up players who are currently out of favour.

One such player is Layvin Kurzawa, who has played a mere 9 minutes for Paris Saint-Germain this month.

According to , PSG are pushing agency Sport Invest to find their client a new club before the end of the window.

The outlet has also claimed that Newcastle have made a ‘concrete approach’ for the Ligue 1 champion.

However, Kurzawa is reportedly not interested in leaving PSG, as he and his family love living in Paris.

Despite the apparent snub, the Magpies still have a decent chance of signing the France international.

Admittedly, he doesn’t want to leave Paris, as per the report – but it doesn’t suggest he has an aversion to joining Newcastle.

Kurzawa has been completely frozen out at his club and he faces more months without getting any game time.

If a club closer to the French capital makes a move for him, then perhaps they’ll have a good chance of landing him.

Otherwise, Newcastle would surely be able to give him ample game time – they need a new left-back.

Kurzawa is a top player with 18 trophies to his name, and would be a good shout for the Magpies.

Newcastle should keep pursuing him and try to convince him with the prospect of regular starts as well as the chance to become a Toon icon.
