Report: Club now expect their ‘outstanding’ midfielder to leave after Tottenham make contact to sign him

Burnley expect Dwight McNeil and Maxwel Cornet to leave the club this summer amid transfer interest from Tottenham.

The report that neither player is expected to remain at Turf Moor as the club try and clear out some of their top earners after relegation.

Tottenham have apparently over signing McNeil, and so have mega-rich Newcastle United, who have already signed Chris Wood and Nick Pope from Burnley since their takeover.

Last month, it was also reported that Tottenham are interested in activating Cornet’s £17.5 million release clause which became active as a result of relegation.

Burnley expect McNeil and Cornet to leave

The report says there has been no concrete bids for either player but they are expected in due course.

It has also been claimed that ‘half the Premier League‘ are looking at the duo, by journalist Dean Jones.

That is not a surprise and McNeil in particular is a young English talent who may well have been underhyped because of the club he played for.

Sean Dyche called him ‘‘ and perhaps a summer move would see him show more people just how good he is.

Newcastle are also keen on Cornet, but how often can they really plunder Burnley, especially after the crucial swoop for Wood, which played such a big part in Burnley’s relegation?

There could well be two bargains to be had here, especially in the shape of Cornet given his asking price is set for any suitors who wish to come in.

It is promising for any potential bidders than Burnley are already resigned to the exits of both McNeil and Cornet in the weeks ahead.
