Report: Club fears their ‘top quality’ player will join Newcastle, PIF have thrown everything at him

The transfer saga involving Newcastle United and Diego Carlos shows no sign of abating.

The Magpies have been heavily linked with the Sevilla star in the past few weeks.

And it looks as though Newcastle have made significant progress in pursuit of Carlos.

Earlier this week, Sky Sports reported that the 28-year-old told Sevilla he wants to leave.

Now, has provided more information regarding their stance on Carlos’ departure.

They claim alarm bells are ringing at Sevilla, who fear losing one of their main squad ‘pillars’.

The Spanish outlet – via – says Newcastle have turned Carlos’ head after throwing ‘everything they have’.

Newcastle have offered him a contract that Sevilla could never compete with and he’s now ‘pushing to leave’, added Marca.

The Magpies are aided by the fact that the player’s representatives have a ‘good connection’ to those in charge at St James Park.

Newcastle’s plan is reportedly to use the player’s desire for the move to get him at a reduced price.

‘It doesn’t matter what Diego thinks’

However, the ball remains in Monchi’s court regarding the “top, top quality centre-back”, in Kaveh Solhekol’s words.

Sevilla are holding out, rejecting Newcastle’s initial offer of €25m and the second, which exceeds €35m, continued the report.

As far as they’re concerned, it ‘doesn’t matter what Diego thinks’, and they will only sell for an ‘off-market’ price.

If that doesn’t arrive, they will wait until the summer.

Monchi is apparently looking at replacements in case a suitable bid arrives from Newcastle.

However, Marca claims he is ‘confident’ the Magpies will continue to offer below what has been asked for, and he can keep rejecting them.

Nonetheless, there are ‘days of uncertainty’ ahead amid ‘alarm bells ringing’ at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan as Newcastle continue to push for Carlos.
