Report: Club are about to announce £60m Tottenham target has just signed a new contract

Everton are going to announce by the end of the week that they have agreed a new contract with forward Anthony Gordon.

report that the confirmation will come this week after recent reports that he was edging closer to a refreshed contract.

They also report that Frank Lampard will sign a new goalscorer to go with Gordon when the January transfer window opens.

Tottenham signed Richarlison from Goodison Park during the summer and were linked with a £60 million swoop for Gordon too.

Gordon to sign new contract

That would have been a huge blow for Lampard in his first summer in charge, undermining his ambitions at the club.

Richarlison almost needed to go to balance the books but once that deal got done, there was less imperative to sell Gordon.

And as an academy graduate, who represented a bright future at the club, it would have been an unpopular decision to sell Gordon.

Chelsea and Newcastle were also linked with Gordon, who is uncapped by England but looks to have a big future in the game if he keeps progressing.

Keeping him is a good sign for Everton, as Spurs have been linked with a new signing in forward areas next month as they have injuries in that area of the pitch.

It remains to be seen who Spurs will go for now, if anyone, while we also wait to see where Everton turn to bolster their frontline in the winter window.
