Report: Clear favourite emerging as West Ham battle Tottenham for Sam Johnstone
A clear favourite is emerging in the race between West Ham, Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton for the signature of Sam Johnstone, .
Johnstone is edging closer to becoming a free agent. The West Brom goalkeeper’s contract expires at the end of the season. And he is attracting a lot of attention.

Interestingly, The Sun reports that Valerien Ismael’s men had hoped to sell the 28-year-old during the January transfer window. That is despite the Baggies putting themselves back in the automatic-promotion race with two wins in their last two Championship games.
However, Johnstone is planning to stick around until the summer. He is reportedly wanted by the Hammers, Spurs and the Saints.
that it is David Moyes who is becoming the clear favourite to secure a deal for the England international.

The report notes that Moyes is willing to delay a move until the end of the season.
West Ham signing Sam Johnstone ahead of Tottenham and Southampton would be huge coup for David Moyes
West Ham potentially winning the race to sign Johnstone may divide a lot of Tottenham fans. Some have previously expressed their admiration for the West Brom stopper. And it does appear that Antonio Conte will need to sign a new goalkeeper at some stage in the next couple of years.
Having said that, recent reports suggested that it is becoming increasingly likely that Hugo Lloris will sign a new contract to stay next season. Signing Johnstone therefore, may become less of a priority.
For Southampton, it would be a real blow to miss out. Alex McCarthy has had a mixed time as first-choice. And like Johnstone, .
The West Brom man would arguably be an upgrade on both of their goalkeepers.
West Ham have two very good goalkeepers on their books. But like Tottenham, they need to consider their long-term plans as Lukasz Fabianski reaches the twilight of his career.
Alphonse Areola is currently at the London Stadium on loan. And he has done little wrong when he has received a chance.
But if they could land Johnstone on a free, it would be a fantastic piece of business.
Right now, West Ham are in the driving seat.
