Report claims Weston McKennie still wants Premier League move amid Southampton interest

Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie is still interested in a move to the Premier League, amid reports of Southampton showing an interest in the American international.

They claim that sources close to McKennie have confirmed to them that McKennie is still keen on a move to the English top-flight and that there should be ‘movement on the situation’ in the next few days.

Plenty of teams in England have been linked with a move for the USMNT international in recent weeks but Southampton are the most recent team to be linked with his signature.

That is this week, which claims that the Saints are keen on a move for the 21-year-old, who has scored six goals in 19 caps for his national team.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is set to join Tottenham or Everton this summer, with the former Saints captain transfer-listed after not signing an extension to his current St Mary’s deal which expires in 2021.

McKennie, an energetic midfielder who can also operate at full-back or on the wing, would be a perfect recruit to replace the Dane.

Southampton fans will no doubt be hoping that the club can indeed win the transfer battle for the player, who is clearly keen on a move to England.
