Report claims West Brom considered Marcos Alonso in January
West Bromwich Albion had Marcos Alonso on their radar during the January transfer window amid doubts over Kieran Gibbs’ future, .
Gibbs has made 10 Premier League appearances for the Baggies this season. However, the report has claimed that Sam Allardyce was open to letting him leave.

His contract expires in the summer. that he is one of the highest earners within their squad.
Interestingly, the report has also stated that Alonso was one of the players West Brom had their eye on before Thomas Tuchel reintroduced him to the Chelsea fold.

TBR View: Alonso surely a strange target for West Brom to consider
West Brom were shrewd in the January market. Their final three signings of the window all arrived at the Hawthorns on loan.
And that is why it is difficult to see how West Brom expected to be able to bring Alonso in.
The Baggies had already signed Conor Gallagher on loan from Chelsea. So a loan deal for the Spaniard would have been impossible unless Gallagher was signed permanently or sent back to Stamford Bridge.
Presumably therefore, they were looking at whether a permanent move was doable. It is probably not unreasonable to imagine that Frank Lampard would have allowed him to leave for a small fee.
However, Alonso earns around £100,000-a-week, . So even a permanent move with a nominal fee would not have come cheap for West Brom.
