Report claims Tottenham Hotspur are cooling interest in Diego Godin

A report in Italy is suggesting that Tottenham Hotspur might be cooling their interest in Inter Milan defender Diego Godin.

It was previously that the Uruguayan star was on their radar ahead of a potential summer swoop.

Godin has struggled to fit into a back-three at Inter Milan following his high-profile free transfer switch from Atletico Madrid last summer.

Given his reputation as one of the game’s finest defenders, Tottenham’s interest in Godin certainly caught the eye.

However, it appears that the interest may be calming down.

As reported byTottenham have ‘cooled’ their interest in the defender.

Why is not clear but it always seemed like an odd target considering Godin’s age and wages.

The 34-year-old was at the time of his signature, Inter’s highest-earning player on £130,000-a-week.

Considering Tottenham’s hesitance to hand out such lucrative deals to their own players over 30-years-old, paying similar to bring in a veteran would be a big change of tact from chairman Daniel Levy.

Given the current financial situation worldwide due to the global health crisis, such a move would undoubtedly be a risky one for Tottenham. According to the latest reports, it appears a risk too great to take.
