Report claims Carlo Ancelotti will run the rule over Everton youngster Jonjoe Kenny

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is planning for Jonjoe Kenny to be part of his squad during the 2020/21 campaign,

The Toffees player has drawn interest from West Ham United in recent weeks but at this stage, a move away from Goodison Park doesn’t appear to be on the horizon.

Kenny spent last season on loan in the Bundesliga with Schalke, playing for ex-Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner.

He was utilised as the club’s first-choice right-back, playing 34 games in all competitions as Schalke endured a season of struggle.

The Gelsenkirchen-based outfit did hold the option of another loan spell but confirmed Everton had ‘other plans’ for the player.

It would now seem Ancelotti is at least keen to use Kenny during pre-season, with the intention of handing him a chance to impress.

Kenny has progressed through the academy ranks with Everton and has 40 first-team appearances under his belt.

At 23, he is at a nice age to provide some much-needed competition for Republic of Ireland star Seamus Coleman.

The first-choice right-back was rivalled by Djibril Sidibe last season but with his loan now finished, the Toffees are short at right-back.

Ancelotti showed willing to utilise the club’s academy players last season and if Kenny impresses there’s no reason he can’t become first-choice.

The youngster scored twice and registered three assists during his time in Germany and despite Schalke’s struggles, he looked steady.

Everton have far bigger priorities this summer than signing a right-back and utilising Kenny looks like a shrewd move by the Italian.

Only time will tell, of course, but the former England under-21 player should find himself playing plenty of football during 2020/21.
