Report claims Aston Villa missed out with £6m bid for eventual promotion winner Kieran Dowell
Aston Villa may have made a transfer bid for Everton talent Kieran Dowell in January.
The report states it is ‘understood’ that Aston Villa made the bid for his services in the winter. However, Everton decided it best that Dowell head out on loan again, joining Sheffield United.
The results were impressive. The England under-21 star showed good form with the Blades, helping them win promotion to the Premier League.
This summer, it is likely that Sheffield United will want Dowell back. Aston Villa, on the other hand, appear to have moved on.

Having signed Jota, a similar style of player to Dowell, it is hard to see any interest in the Everton talent being rekindled in the coming months.
Everton’s stance on Dowell also remains something of a mystery.
The midfielder is something of a mercurial talent who has been close to breaking the Everton first-team on several occasions.
However, the inconsistency to his game is something that former loan clubs Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest can certainly attest to.
Perhaps Everton will take a look at his performances for the England under-21s this summer to see if he is ready for a chance under Marco Silva. If not, then expect plenty of other £6 million bids to come flooding in.
