Report: Christian Eriksen’s move to Inter the reason Tottenham failed to sign Milan Skriniar

that Christian Eriksen and his move to Inter Milan in the January transfer window is the reason that Tottenham Hotspur failed to sign Milan Skriniar from Antonio Conte’s side in the summer.

Eriksen, 28, ended a five-year stint at Tottenham to join Inter Milan in January. Daniel Levy chose to finally cash in on Eriksen, with Inter deciding to increase their offer for the 99-time Denmark international to £18million.

Since the move, Eriksen has struggled with Inter – but a move only went through due to Inter deciding to pay the asking price, rather than Daniel Levy reducing the price tag. Inter and Spurs met at the negotiating table once again this summer.

Inter asked Tottenham for £55million – or £45million plus bonuses for Skriniar. Spurs wanted to pay less, but Inter gave Spurs a taste of their own medicine after the Eriksen saga. It left Spurs without their main target.

TBR’s view – Inter deserve plaudits for staying firm

Levy is renowned for his hard negotiating and a tight stronghold on the Tottenham coffers. He showed just that with the sale of Eriksen, but credit must be given to Inter for refusing to give in for a second time – over Skriniar.

Spurs may now have to delve into the Championship market with Swansea’s Joe Rodon a target. But it sees Levy’s approach to transfers and negotiations backfire – as Spurs go without their best defensive target.
