Report: Chelsea could swoop in and beat Arsenal to signing of left-sided flyer

that Chelsea have been made aware that they can sign Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico for a kncodown price, and it might just tempt Frank Lampard into edging Arsenal aside for the Argentine ace.

Tagliafico, 27, has continued to improve his reputation as one of Europe’s best left-backs since moving to Ajax. Clocking up just one appearance shy of a century since his move to the Netherlands in 2018, Tagliafico has had a hand in 27 goals.

That is a remarkable figure given he is firstly a defender. Scoring 12 times, £22.4million-rated Tagliafico has also laid on 15 assists and it comes as little surprise that Premier League clubs are interested. Chelsea certainly need a left-sided defender.

Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso could be made flexible this summer, and Tagliafico would prove a lot cheaper than Ben Chilwell – as per the report. Chelsea have already lured Hakim Ziyech from Ajax to west London this summer.

It comes just days after Arsenal wanted to sign the Argentina international in order to allow Bukayo Saka to move into his more natural position of left wing. It may see Lampard nudge Arsenal out of the picture and sign Tagliafico.

TBR’s view – Chelsea need Tagliafico more than Arsenal

Even if Saka is pushed onto the left flank, The Gunners still have two very solid options on the left side of their defence. Sead Kolasinac is a consistent performer despite his niggling injuries, while Kieran Tierney still remains a top left-back.

The Scot has endured enormous injury troubles since his move south from Celtic but if he can put those behind him, the left-back may finally show why Arsenal spent £25million. Arsenal hardly need Tagliafico, then, but Chelsea certainly do.
