Report: Chelsea could now snatch ‘fantastic’ £50m defender from Newcastle’s grasp
Chelsea are being linked with a surprise move to bring Nathan Ake back to the club, despite interest from Newcastle United.
The Magpies are thought to be keen on signing Ake but have been told they might have to pay around £50m to sign the Manchester City star. Eddie Howe is a known admirer of the Dutchman from their time together at Bournemouth, and could look to offer him regular first-team football.
However, writing in his column for today, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Chelsea are keeping an eye on Ake, with a view to bringing him back to the club. It’s claimed Thomas Tuchel is a big fan of the defender and with deals for Jules Kounde and Matthijs de Ligt still some way off, Tuchel is keeping an eye on Ake.

Of course, Chelsea sold Ake to Bournemouth back in 2017 for around. Any deal to bring him back will no doubt cost them around double that, given City paid £40m and the fact Newcastle have been quoted £50m.
It wouldn’t be the first time Chelsea have signed someone who they let go years before either. With that in mind, it would be little surprise to see Ake back at the club.
TBR’s View: Nathan Ake A Man In Demand It Seems
The issue for Ake is that whileever City have Stones, Laporte, and Dias on the books, he just isn’t going to get the chance to play as often as he’d like.
He is still a class act. He plays for the Dutch national team at the end of the day and Pep Guardiola trusts him to come in when needed as well. For Newcastle and Chelsea, he’d be a fine signing, even if it does mean the Blues backtracking on their decision to sell years ago.
