Report: Charlton win the race to sign in-demand 24-year-old who’s ‘very energetic and very athletic’
Charlton Athletic have reportedly seen off competition from other League One clubs to sign Sean Clare.
claims that the Addicks were up against the likes of Sunderland, Ipswich and Portsmouth.
However, Charlton have apparently got the deal over the line, with the 24-year-old now seemingly set for The Valley.

“Fantastic at breaking from midfield”
Clare, who spent time at the Nike Academy, began his professional career in 2016 when he joined Sheffield Wednesday.
He took in several loan spells while on the Owls’ books before joining Scottish side Hearts in 2018.
Clare made a name for himself at Tynecastle, making 71 competitive appearances and registering 12 goals and six assists.
In 2018, then manager Craig Levein sung the player’s places and compared him to Jambos legend Colin Cameron.
“We’re starting to see his ball carrying and he’s fantastic at breaking from midfield,” Levein told the .
“He’s not been in a position to score yet but that’s only a matter of time.
“He kind of reminds me of a Colin Cameron type – in time that’s what he will be.”

Clare then joined Oxford in 2020, where Karl Robinson tried to switch him to right-back.
After making 20 appearances for the U’s, Clare spent the second half of the 2020-21 season on loan at Burton Albion.
“Sean’s coming in on loan from Oxford to compete for a midfield position,” Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
“He’s box-to-box, very energetic and very athletic.”
Clare made 20 appearances for the Brewers, all in midfield, and claimed one goal and three assists.
