Report: Champions League giants now having doubts over signing £120k-a-week Liverpool player

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is out of contract at the end of the season and looks likely to leave Anfield.

The Reds signed Keita back in 2018 for just under £53million, and he arrived on Merseyside to considerable fanfare.

However, the Guinea international has failed to live up to the expectations placed on his shoulders.

A combination of injuries and poor form has seen Keita make just 117 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool.

With the January transfer window looming, he can negotiate a pre-contract with a club outside of England.

have now reported that AC Milan have been eyeing Keita, but they are now having doubts.

The Italian outlet – via – claims the Rossoneri are hoping to snap the 27-year-old up on a free.

However, Keita earns a reported and Milan may have trouble matching this, said the report.

In addition, Milan are apparently unsure over Keita’s fitness record.

The player has missed 60 games for Liverpool since the start of the decade.

Liverpool will not want to lose Keita on a free, given how much they spent on him four years ago.

However, Milan’s purported doubts will surely be similar across the board in terms of potential suitors.

This would likely make it harder for Liverpool to sell Keita in January and try to recoup some money.

In addition, the Reds would save themselves millions in wages if he leaves in January instead of the end of June.

It remains to be seen what Liverpool, Milan and any other potential suitors do over the coming weeks.

The best thing would be for a club to sign Keita directly from Liverpool in January.

But then again, with him becoming a free agent at the end of the season, suitors may well just look to secure him on a summer deal for nothing.
