that Celtic are keen on completing a permanent deal for Diego Laxalt from AC Milan – despite the Uruguay international dropping out of the starting line-up of late under Neil Lennon.
Celtic have finally returned to a bit of form, winning their last four Scottish Premiership matches and five of their last six – but Laxalt, who turned 28 earlier this month, has failed to start a single league game since January 16.
He started the first three matches of 2021 in the Scottish Premiership but has since played just 21 minutes of top-flight football – remaining an unused substitute in five of Celtic’s last seven league games. Greg Taylor has been preferred.
Despite his recent lack of game time, Celtic are keen on doing a permanent deal according to the latest report. Following his move to Parkhead last summer, claimed the option of a £9million purchase had been included.
Laxalt is one of four players on loan at Celtic currently, along with Everton’s Jonjoe Kenny, Southampton’s Mo Elyounoussi and Brighton’s Shane Duffy.
TBR’s view – Is Laxalt really worth that figure?
At his best, Laxalt can be a player that exceeds that value. Indeed, Milan paid more than £9million to sign him from Genoa after the 2018 World Cup – almost double. But at Celtic, he has struggled to recapture his best form.
Many go to Scotland and are shocked by the pace and tempo of the Premiership. Laxalt, who had been playing in Serie A – a much slower, more defensive-minded league – has struggled. Is he worth the same figure Celtic paid for Odsonne Edouard?
